Miele Appliance Error Codes and Fault Messages: What They Mean and What to Check

Learn what common Miele fault messages can indicate across dishwashers, washers, dryers, ovens, and refrigeration equipment, plus what to check before requesting repair.

Miele Appliance Error Codes, Meanings, and Troubleshooting Guidance

Miele appliances use advanced electronic controls, sensors, and safety systems to monitor operation. When the appliance detects an abnormal condition, it may interrupt a program and display a fault code.

A Miele code is a diagnostic clue rather than proof that one particular component has failed. Meanings can vary between product generations, making the exact model and symptoms important during diagnosis.

Miele Washer Error Codes

F20 Heating Fault

F20 indicates a heating-related problem. It may appear when the washer cannot reach the selected wash temperature within the required time.

If the code returns after an approved restart, the heating system may require further diagnosis.

F11 Drain Fault

F11 indicates restricted draining. Possible conditions include a kinked drain hose, incorrect hose height, blocked filter, or obstructed drain pump.

F211 and F242

F211 concerns the TwinDos system and a sensor fault related to detergent dispensing.

F242 identifies a communication problem between the touch display and appliance electronics.

A washer that leaves water inside, does not heat properly, or repeatedly stops should be evaluated using both the fault code and actual symptoms.

Miele Dishwasher Error Codes

Miele dishwashers use a large fault-code library for water intake, draining, circulation, leak protection, dispensing, and electronics.

F11 indicates a drain problem. Depending on the dishwasher generation, the cause may involve a blocked drain pump, incorrectly positioned pump cover, or water flowing back into the wash cabinet.

F78 concerns the circulation pump. A blocked or nonoperating circulation pump can interfere with normal washing.

On AutoDos-equipped models, F600 identifies a dispensing-system outlet fault. The dishwasher may cancel the wash program and operate the drain pump as a protective response.

Additional documented dishwasher faults include F12, F13, F14, F15, F70, F79, F84, F85, F86, and F91 depending on model and configuration.

Miele Oven and Steam Oven Error Codes

Miele ovens monitor door locking, ventilation, temperature, controls, and safety functions.

F32 indicates that the Self Clean door lock has not closed correctly.

F134 is associated with excessive oven-compartment temperature detected by the temperature sensor. An oven that appears to overheat should remain out of use until the cause is identified.

Other oven codes include F23, F33, F38, F44, F54, F55, and F60.

Steam and combi-steam ovens add water-management diagnostics.

F11 can mean water is not draining correctly from the steam generator.

F196 indicates that water cannot be pumped away from the oven compartment on supported models.

F20 relates to insufficient heating, while F94 may involve the water-container level system and float switches.

Miele Refrigerator Error Codes

Miele refrigeration equipment uses fault codes for sensors, water systems, software, ice makers, and temperature monitoring.

F121 identifies an ice-maker fault. Possible contributing conditions include water-supply problems, insufficient pressure, voltage fluctuations, or faults within the ice system.

F383 concerns the ice-maker water inlet. Possible causes include a kinked water hose, contaminated inlet filter, water-container problems, or another ice-system fault.

Other documented refrigeration codes include F114, F120, F141–F146, F384, and F385 depending on the model.

Miele Dryer and Cooktop Error Codes

Miele tumble dryers can report codes including F39, F45, F53, F55, F66, F99, F104, F206, F207, and F242.

Repeated faults combined with poor drying, unexpected shutdowns, abnormal heat, or a drum that stops turning require deeper diagnosis.

Miele cooktops use several distinctive electronic faults.

Err 039, 040, 408, or 412 indicates an electronic fault.

Err 044 means overheating protection has activated.

F31 or FE31 indicates an electrical power-supply fault.

What to Do When a Miele Error Code Returns

Record the code exactly and note what the appliance was doing at the time. Avoid replacing sensors, pumps, heaters, controls, or other components based only on the displayed warning.

Recurring drainage, heating, electronics, temperature, or water-system faults should be tested professionally to determine whether the problem is the component itself, wiring, controls, installation conditions, or another related system.
